Enquire about this product

This is a beautiful original drawing signed Jean Cocteau. Please note that this is a genuine drawing, not any kind of print. The drawing is on old paper, which carbon dates back to the era of the artist. This does not automatically mean that the drawing is authentic; it just means that it has not been produced in the modern era. The drawing is in very good condition for its age, with the level of fading/wear you would expect for old paper. It comes complete with a high quality museum standard acid-free mount, ready for framing - looks magnificent when framed and would enhance any interior.

The work is sold in the manner of Jean Cocteau as we have no formal documentation and therefore cannot be certain of authenticity. There are usually only one or two acknowledged experts worldwide for any given artist and it takes time and money to have a work of art officially authenticated. Auction houses are not legally allowed to give official authentication as they must refer to the given expert/s. Most of our pieces of art were bought from auctions, antiquarian markets and individuals worldwide.

BIOGRAPHY
Jean Cocteau, born Jean Maurice Eugène Clément Cocteau (1889 - 1963) was a French poet, novelist, dramatist, designer, playwright, artist and filmmaker. He began writing at 10 and was a published poet by age 16. He collaborated with the "Russian Ballet" company of Sergei Diaghilev, and was active in many art movements, but always remained a poet at heart. His films reflect this fact. Cocteau is best known for his novel Les Enfants terribles (1929), and the films Blood of a Poet (1930), Les Parents terribles (1948), Beauty and the Beast (1946) and Orpheus (1949). His circle of associates, friends and lovers included Kenneth Anger, Pablo Picasso, Jean Hugo, Jean Marais, Henri Bernstein, Yul Brynner, Marlene Dietrich, Coco Chanel, Erik Satie, María Félix, Édith Piaf and Raymond Radiguet.

A beautiful drawing that will be much admired in your home or office. Will provide an excellent financial investment as well as a possession to enjoy. You are welcome to return for a full refund if you are not entirely happy. Also, please feel free to view at our central London showroom.
