This is a simply stunning example of a gents' Rolex Oyster Perpetual semi bubble back, in steel and and featuring the rare index 'Thunderbird' bezel [Model 6285 / Serial 768490]. Please don't confuse this watch with the cheaper, ordinary and numerous plain bezel Oyster Date watches. Dating from 1952, the watch is in excellent all original condition, with very minor wear - much brighter in reality than the dark and moody photos. The watch comes from our personal collection and we have enjoyed wearing from time to time. It is always much admired.
The watch features a stainless steel case, original signed screw down crown, a Rolex self-winding chronometer movement and a beautiful clean original, unrestored silvered dial. If you are looking for this model we guarantee you will not find a better example. The watch comes complete with a new Hirsch strap and a new quality non-Rolex watch box. In terms of financial investment, the watch will only rise further in value.
The solid steel case is in excellent clean condition, with no significant wear and features a gorgeous index 'Thunderbird' bezel - much more attractive than the more usual plain sloping bezel. The case measures 34mm wide, excluding the original screw-down crown [signed with the famous Rolex crown emblem] x 13mm thick x 40mm long, including the lugs. The case back screws correctly closed and the inside is correctly signed 'Montres Rolex SA', 'Geneva Swiss', 'IX 53', '6285' [the model reference number] and '18'. In-between the lugs at the 6 position is the '768490' serial number and 'Modele Depose', and in-between the lugs at the 12 position is the '6285' model reference and 'Brevet +'. The outside back of the case is free from any personal inscription.
The lovely original silvered dial is in very clean condition, with no significant wear, and features applied steel batons and Rolex emblem. It is signed 'Rolex Oyster Perpetual', 'Officially Certified Chronometer' and 'Swiss'. The original hands, including centre seconds hand, are also in very clean condition, and the original Rolex lens is very clear.
The Rolex self-winding chronometer movement is excellent quality, as you would expect and in very clean condition - brighter than in the dark photo. It is signed 'Rolex perpetual', 'Swiss Made', 'Patented Self Winder 2 Ruby Jewels' and '58405' and 'F63617'. The movement has just been serviced by a master watchmaker and is in excellent working order, with no issues.
Strap This beautiful watch is on a new Hirsch leather strap and will be posted in a new, non-Rolex presentation box.
A simply superb watch from one of history's most famous names; collection standard. Will provide an excellent financial investment as well as a possession to enjoy.
