Just magnificent. An exceptional, museum quality Rolex Oyster solid gold pocket watch, dating from the early 1930s and in as near to mint condition as you will find for a watch dating back to this era - it is clear that it has rarely been used. It is an extremely rare watch; you will find very few of these watches and certainly not in this incredible condition. It is rare to find a watch of this standard offered for sale. Please note that our price is good value. If you go to the following link you will find one of these watches was on sale at The Mayfair Antiques & Fine Art Fair in London for £125,000. While that is clearly an unrealistic price, it does shows the value in my asking price:
The watch features a gorgeous large (46.5mm wide) gleaming solid 9ct yellow gold case (screw back and front), original mint clean 'sunburst' engine turned dial, original mint blued-steel Breguet 'moon' hands, original clear lens, and original crown-wound Rolex Extra Prima 17 jewel movement (very high-grade and far better than photographed). The movement is in full working order, with no issues. It goes without saying that the watch will make an excellent financial investment, as fewer and fewer antique pocket watches of this standard are coming to the market.
If you go to the following link you will read in full the link between this watch and early Panerai watches. Essentially, Rolex made all the early Panerai watches for the Royal Italian navy from 1936-1956. The Rolex Oyster pocket watch design was used to make them. The cases were adapted to wrist watch use and the link will explain how this was done.

The solid 9ct gold Oyster case is in mint vintage condition, with extremely minor wear, and measures 46.5mm wide x 9.5mm thick x 53mm high, including the original 9ct gold stem/bow. Both stem and bow are in excellent condition. The back and front of the case unscrew perfectly, with the threads in excellent condition. The inside back of the case is signed 'Rolex 7 Worlds Records, gold medal', 'R.W.C.Ltd.', 'Geneve Swiss', 'Patent Applied For + 114948', the '2000177' case reference number and the appropriate Swiss hallmarks for solid 9ct gold. All signage and hallmarks are crisp and clear.
The beautiful original, engine turned 'sunburst' dial is mint crisp condition. It has benefitted from an element of expert restoration and features lovely large numbers and sub seconds counter. The dial is signed 'Rolex Oyster' and 'Swiss Made'. The original blued-steel Breguet 'moon' hands are in mint vintage condition and the original lens is very clear.
The original crown-wound Rolex Extra Prima 17 jewel movement is in excellent clean, bright, clean condition - much better than the gloomy camera photo suggests. It is signed 'Rolex Extra Prima', 'Swiss Made', '17 Seventeen Rubies', 'Timed 6 Positions For All Climates' and the '782531' movement reference number. The watch is in very good working order, with no issues.
This is a rare chance to own a rare, museum standard Rolex Oyster pocket watch. A watch of this nature will provide a cast-iron and rising financial investment, as well as a possession to enjoy.
