This is a very special early Patek Philippe gents watch, dating from the 1930s Art Deco era and in excellent condition for a watch of this age. The watch features a solid 18ct gold hinged case, clean dial with original enamel markings and riveted numbers, and a very clean, freshly serviced hand-wound Patek Philippe movement (No 817649). It comes complete with a new Hirsch leather strap and a new, quality non-Patek presentation case. The watch makes a very impressive statement on the wrist, something a bit different with a history, and will rise hugely in value.
Early Patek wristwatches are becoming increasingly hard to find and even fewer are found in such excellent condition. The watch is even better in reality than photographed so I know someone is going to be very pleased to receive it. My watchmaker, who is a Patek specialist, loved the watch and mentioned what lovely condition it is in. Please note that although the watch was originally made as a gents watch it is very small by today's much larger standards, so please check the case dimensions below.
The solid 18ct yellow gold hinged case is in excellent, bright condition, and measures 23mm wide, excluding the winding crown x 4mm thick x 31mm long, including the lugs. The winding crown may or may not be original; it is very hard to tell. The outside back of the case is signed 'Patek Philippe & Co Geneve' and the inside back of the case is signed 'PP.Co', 'Patek Philippe & Co', 'Switzerland', '18Kts' (for 18ct gold), the '292255' case reference number and the famous Patek Philippe emblem. The case does not carry a personal inscription.
The dial has been beautifully part restored by one of the foremost dial restorers in Europe and he has made a stunning job of it. The black markings on the dial, including the Patek name, are all original unrestored enamel. The silvered background is the part that has been restored. The result is a lovely dial in mint condition. The dial is screwed on with two tiny original screws and the 9, 12 and 3 numbers are riveted to the dial. The dial is signed 'Patek Philippe & Co' and 'Geneve' and the signature is original enamel. The original hands are in very good condition, with minor wear, and the lens, which may or may not be the original, is perfectly clear.
The hand-wound Patek Philippe movement is in excellent, clean, crisp condition - it is clear from the condition that the movement has rarely been worked on and very carefully. It is signed 'Patek Philippe & Co', 'Geneve' and the '817649' movement reference number. The movement has just been serviced by a master watchmaker who specialises in Patek Philippe and is in very good working order, with no issues.
I have put this lovely watch on a new Hirsch leather strap, which suits it perfectly. The watch comes complete with a new non-Patek watch case.
A rare, highly collectible vintage watch from one of history's top watchmakers. It will provide an excellent financial investment as well as a possession to enjoy.
