This is a stunning Rolex Precision gents dress watch - Ref 8170. Its also a very rare watch, with the combination of pink 10ct gold case and reeded bezel, known as a 'Thunderbird' bezel. Dating from the late 1940s, the watch is in mint vintage, very crisp condition and features a solid 10ct pink gold case, original unsigned winding crown and a clean, freshly serviced hand-wound Rolex 17 jewel movement (Cal 11). It comes complete with a new quality Hirsch strap and a new, quality non-Rolex presentation case. The watch makes a very impressive statement on the wrist, something beautiful with a history, and will only rise in value. The watch is even better in reality than photographed so I know someone is going to be very pleased to receive it.
The solid 10ct pink gold two piece stepped case is in superb gleaming condition, with a very crisp reeded bezel, and measures 31mm wide, excluding the original unsigned winding crown x 7mm thick x 38mm long, including the beautiful curved lugs. The inside back of the case is signed 'Rolex Geneva Swiss' with the famous Rolex coronet emblem, '717' & '8170' and the appropriate hallmarks for Swiss solid 10ct gold. The case does not carry a personal inscription.
The professionally restored cream dial is in mint clean condition and features beautiful pink gold applied hour markers and Rolex coronet emblem. It is signed 'Rolex Precision' and 'Swiss Made'. The original 'Feuille' pink gold hands are in excellent unbent condition and the lens is very clear.
The hand-wound Rolex 17 jewel movement (Cal 11) - rhodium-plated, 17 jewels, straight line lever es'apement, Superbalance balance, self-compensating Breguet balance-spring - is in good clean condition - far brighter than photographed. It is signed 'Rolex Precision', '17 Rubies', 'Swiss made' and the '65695' serial number. The movement has just been serviced by a master watchmaker and is in very good working order, with no issues.
I have put this lovely watch on a new quality Hirsch strap, which suits it perfectly. The watch comes complete with a new non-Rolex watch case.
A rare, highly collectable vintage watch from one of history's most exclusive brands; will provide an excellent financial investment as well as a possession to enjoy.
