Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date gents watch - c1967

This is a simply stunning example of a gents Rolex Datejust Oyster Perpetual, in steel and and featuring the rare combination of Thunderbird bezel and black dial [Model 1501 / Serial 1665750]. Please don't confuse this watch with the cheaper, ordinary and numerous plain bezel Oyster Date watches. Dating from 1967, the watch is in absolutely excellent all original condition, with extremely minor wear. The watch comes from my personal collection and I have enjoyed wearing from time to time. It is always much admired.

The watch features a stainless steel case, original steel folded link Oyster bracelet, date aperture and original cyclops lens, a Rolex self-winding 26 jewel movement [Cal 3035] and a beautiful mint original black dial. If you are looking for this model I guarantee you will not find a better example. The watch comes complete with a quality presentation box. The solid steel case is in excellent clean condition, with no significant wear and features a gorgeous Thunderbird bezel - much more attractive than the more usual plan sloping bezel. The case measures 34.5mm wide, excluding the original screw-down crown [signed with the famous Rolex crown emblem] x 11mm thick x 42mm long, including the lugs. The case back screws correctly closed and the inside is correctly signed 'Montres Rolex SA', 'Geneva Switzerland', 'Patented', 'Stainless steel', '1501' [the reference number] and '1.67'. The case carries the Model and reference numbers clearly between the lugs. The photo of the inside back of the case is dark so you can expect it to be bright in reality.

The lovely original black dial is in mint clean condition and is signed 'Rolex', 'Oyster Perpetual Date', 'Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified' and 'Swiss made'. The original hands, including smooth-sweeping centre seconds hand, are also in mint condition, and the original Rolex cyclops lens is perfectly clear.

The Rolex self-winding 26 jewel movement [Cal 1570] is excellent quality, as you would expect and in crisp, clean condition. It is signed 'Montres Rolex SA', 'Geneva Swiss', 'Twenty seven 27 jewels', 'Adj 6 positions and temperature', movement serial number 'D64141' and '1570'. The movement has just been serviced by a master watchmaker and is in perfect working order, keeping excellent time. The date function works correctly.

The watch is on its original flat linked Rolex Oyster steel bracelet. The bracelet will fit an 8" wrist at its maximum or 6.5" at minimum on the adjustable clasp. The bracelet is in excellent condition. The original clasp carries the Rolex emblem and is signed Rolex', 'Patented & Registered Swiss Made', 'Steelinox', '7835 19' and '2 72'. The watch comes complete a new, non-Rolex presentation box.
