Enquire about this product

This is a beautiful Jaeger LeCoultre Memovox travel watch, dating from the early 1970s and in literally mint condition; so good that the watch could have been made yesterday. The watch comes with its original pouch and box and has been worn only on a handful of occasions since by one owner. The watch features a gilt and blued-steel case, original signed crowns, gorgeous mint original golden dial with date function, original mint lens and a mint hand-wound, high-grade Jaeger LeCoultre movement (Cal 911). You can buy tired JLC Memovox travel watches for less but this watch is exceptional; easily the best we have seen in twenty years.

We are selling the watch on behalf of Ralph Warburton, a customer of us. Regarding the watch, he says: "Back in the 1960's, I was a young aspiring executive with a very large national private company. I climbed the corporate ladder and came to a point where I was required to fly to the Far East to open up lines of supply. My first trips were taken aboard the Boeing 707. This flight was very long as the craft had to stop over in at least 4 countries - at times 5. Then came PANAM 001 - the first 747. Much better but still acting like a long haul bus, dropping and collecting passengers as we flew east. So - there I was, in a new world for me - very excited. Sights and sounds and smells intensifying this wonder I felt. I Worked hard, covering Hong Kong, Thailand, Macau and Formosa as it was then. I continued in my work in this way and in the late 1960s treated myself to a beautiful Omega DeVille watch. This was my first proper watch, bought on Nathan Road, Hong Kong. Then in early 70s, following another promotion, I celebrated by buying this Jaeger LeCoultre travel watch. I bought it from Isetan, an exclusive Japanese store near to the Peninsular Hotel. I have used the watch only on a handful of occasions since. I hope the second owner will enjoy the watch as much as I have."

Isn't it great to have such wonderful provenance!

The gilt and blued-steel case is in gleaming mint vintage condition, with no significant wear, and folds out to form a stand. It measures 37mm wide at its widest point x 11.5mm thick x 63mm long, including the bow. The inside case is signed 'LeCoultre Co' and 'Swiss'. The outside back is signed with the '1385788 11074.71' serial numbers and does not carry a personal inscription.

The original, unrestored golden dial is just beautiful and features Roman numerals, which is rare for this model. It is in mint clean condition and is signed 'Jaeger LeCoultre' and 'Swiss Made'. The original hands, including centre seconds hand, are in mint, unbent condition and the original lens is also in mint condition.

The hand-wound Jaeger LeCoultre movement is in mint condition and is signed 'Jaeger LeCoultre', 'Fab. Suisse', 'Swiss', '911' (the calibre number) and '2157091' (the movement serial number). It is in excellent working order, with no issues and with the date function working correctly.

This beautiful watch comes complete with its original pouch and original Jaeger LeCoultre watch box, both of which are virtually as new. The existence of these items adds hugely to the value of the watch.

An exceptional watch from one of history's most famous names; full of charm and elegance. Will provide an excellent financial investment as well as a possession to enjoy.
