Please note: The watch has photographed very badly. In reality the watch is clean and bright with a perfect lighter cream dial.
This is a beautiful, incredibly rare Cartier triple calendar gents watch, dating from the 1950s and in excellent, clean condition - the first one we have held in twenty years. The watch features a large 36mm steel case, original unsigned winding crown, an original professionally restored Cartier dial and a clean, freshly serviced hand-wound Jaeger LeCoultre movement. Jaeger LeCoultre made the movements for most vintage Cartier watches from this era, a relationship that began in the early 1930s. The watch comes complete with a new, quality non-Cartier leather strap and a new, quality non-Cartier presentation case. The watch makes a very impressive statement on the wrist, something a bit different with a history, and given the Cartier name and extreme rarity will only rise further in value.
Please note that this watch is not a rebadged Jaeger LeCoultre. You can tell this by from two facts: a) the case carries hand stamped Cartier reference numbers on the back (Cartier always handstamped these numbers, unlike the other Swiss watchmakers, including Jaeger LeCoultre, who used only machine stamping). b) The outside of the top left hand lug is also hand stamped with the Cartier '8601' reference number, something only Cartier ever did.
The solid steel case is in excellent bright original condition, with very minor wear, and measures 36mm wide (large for the era), excluding the original unsigned winding crown x 8mm thick x 44mm long, including the gorgeous teardrop lugs. The inside back of the case is signed and the outside carries '434580' case number '8601' hand stamped Cartier reference number. The outside of the top left lug is also hand stamped with the '8601' reference number. The case does not carry a personal inscription.
The original, professionally restored (restored to exact original specifications) light cream Cartier dial is in mint condition an is signed 'Cartier' and 'Swiss'. It features applied pink gold hour markers and triple calendar details, in English. The original hands are in excellent unbent condition and the lens is very clear.
The hand-wound Jaeger LeCoultre movement is in excellent, clean conditionand is fully and correctly signed. The movement has just been serviced by a master watchmaker and is in very good working order, with no issues. All functions work correctly.
We have put this lovely watch on a new leather strap, which suits it perfectly. The watch comes complete with a new non-Cartier watch case.
A very rare, highly collectable vintage watch from one of history's most exclusive names. Will provide an excellent financial investment as well as a possession to enjoy.
