This is a lovely example of a gents Rolex Oyster Perpetual, in solid 9ct gold [Model 1003]. Dating from 1961, the watch is in all original condition. The watch features a solid 9ct gold case, original signed crown, Rolex self-winding 26 jewel movement [Cal 1560], an original and unrestored golden dial and original gold plated Rolex buckle. The watch comes complete with the original purchase receipt, service papers, a non-original Hirsch leather strap (tell us if you want black or dark brown) and a later Rolex service box.
You can feel confident buying from me - We offer a full refund if you are not entirely happy, as long as the watch is returned within seven days if UK customer, fourteen days if overseas, in the same condition. We also provide a full receipt, six months guarantee (long enough for you to assess the working order) and a professional insurance valuation. We also welcome you to come and view the watch at our central London address, in the New Bond Street area. We offer our customers online prices - well below value - with offline availability and service.
The solid 9ct gold case is in good original condition and can be polished to taste. The case measures 33mm wide, excluding the original screw-down crown [signed with the famous Rolex crown emblem] x 39mm long, including the lugs. The case back screws correctly closed and the inside is correctly signed 'Montres Rolex SA', 'Geneva Switzerland', 'RWCLtd', 'Patented', '1003' [the reference number] and carries Glasgow import hallmarks for solid 9ct gold, dating to 1961.
The original, unrestored golden dial is showing wear that actually looks quite nice, a kind of sunburst effect. You can either leave it in original condition or we can have the dial professionally restored at an extra cost of 50. We can only do this once the watch has been paid for. The dial is signed 'Rolex', 'Oyster Perpetual', 'Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified' and 'Swiss'. The original hands, including smooth-sweeping centre seconds hand, are in mint condition, and the original lens is clear.
The Rolex self-winding 26 jewel movement [Cal 1560] is excellent quality, as you would expect and in crisp, clean condition. It is signed 'Montres Rolex SA', 'Geneva', 'Twenty six 26 jewels', 'Adj 5 positions temperature', 'D34480' and '1560'. The movement has just been serviced by a master watchmaker and is in excellent working order.
This lovely watch comes with its original gold plated Rolex buckle and a new Hirsch leather strap. The watch also comes complete in a later Rolex service box, original purchase document (Goldsmiths 1966) and later service receipt (1980s). These items add significant value.
A simply superb watch from one of history's most famous names; collection standard. Will provide an excellent financial investment as well as a possession to enjoy.
