This is a beautiful Omega Seamaster Cosmic watch, dating from the early 1970s and in near mint vintage condition, with all original parts. The watch has had just one owner from new and has rarely been worn. It features a very rare gleaming gilt (gold filled on silver) front loading case, original signed winding crown, mint original ''cross hair'' dial and an original automatic Omega movement. It comes complete with a new Hirsch leather strap, an Omega gold-plated buckle and a new, quality non-Omega presentation case. You can buy standard gold Omega watches for less but this watch is exceptional; we guarantee you won''t want to take it off.
We are selling the watch on behalf of Ralph Warburton, a customer of us. Regarding the watch, he says: "Back in the 1960s, I was a young aspiring executive with a very large national private company. I climbed the corporate ladder and came to a point where I was required to fly to the Far East to open up lines of supply. My first trips were taken aboard the Boeing 707. This flight was very long as the craft had to stop over in at least 4 countries - at times 5. Then came PANAM 001 - the first 747. Much better but still acting like a long haul bus, dropping and collecting passengers as we flew east. So - there I was, in a new world for me - very excited. Sights and sounds and smells intensifying this wonder I felt. I Worked hard, covering Hong Kong, Thailand, Macau and Formosa, as it was then. I continued in my work in this way and in the late 1960s treated myself to a beautiful Omega De Ville watch. This was my first proper watch, bought on Nathan Road, Hong Kong. Then in the early 70s, following another promotion, I celebrated by buying this beautiful Omega watch. I bought it, along with a Jaeger LeCoultre Memovox alarm watch, from Isetan, an exclusive Japanese store near to the Peninsular Hotel. I have worn the watch only on special occasions since and I hope the second owner will enjoy the watch as much as I have."
Isn't it great to have such wonderful provenance!
The gleaming gilt case (very rare to find a gilt Omega case) is a 'front loader'. This means that a special tool is required to remove the lens, dial and movement from the front of the case, with the split-pin stem removed. We do not have this tool but can assure you that the watch is correct and all-original. The case is in superb gleaming condition, with minor wear, and measures 33mm wide, excluding the original signed winding crown x 10.5mm thick x 37mm long, including the lugs. The inside case is signed 'Omega' and 'Swiss'. The outside back is signed 'Seamaster', '165023' and 'Tool 105' and does not carry a personal inscription.
The original, unrestored 'cross hair' dial is just beautiful. It is in mint clean condition and is signed ''Omega'', 'Automatic', 'Seamaster Cosmic' and 'Swiss Made'. The original hands, including centre seconds hand, are in mint, unbent condition and the lens is perfectly clear.
The automatic Omega movement is original and correctly signed. It is in excellent working order, with no issues.
We have put this lovely watch on a new Hirsch leather strap, attached to which is an Omega gold-plated buckle. The watch comes complete with a new, non-Omega watch case.
