Rolex silver gents watch - c1912

This is an extremely rare early Rolex watch we are releasing from our private collection. Dating from 1912 (just six years after Willsdorf and Davies launched the Rolex brand, the watch is in very good condition for a 100 year old watch - better than photographed. The watch was originally made as a gents watch, or wristlet as they were then known, so please check the case measurements below. The watch features a solid silver case (left unpolished), original crown, a clean dial and clean Rolex movement. The watch comes complete with a used leather strap and a new quality presentation box.

The solid silver hinged case is in good condition and can be polished to taste - We do not highly polish cases as collectors prefer them 'as is'. The case measures 26.2mm wide, excluding the original winding crown x 31.4mm long, including the solid silver fixed bar lugs. Both the back and front of the case open on hinges and the hinges are in good order. The inside of the front cover is signed '56' and hallmarked. The inside back is correctly signed 'W&D' (for Willsdorf and Davies, the founders of Rolex), the '487511' reference number, '56', and carries London import hallmarks for solid silver, dating to 1912.

The dial is in very clean condition and is signed 'Rolex'. The original blued-steel hands are in excellent unbent condition, and the lens is very clear.

The original Rolex hand-wound movement is in excellent condition and is signed 'Rolex ' and 'Swiss made'. The movement has just been serviced by a master watchmaker and is in very good working order.

This beautiful watch is on a used leather strap and comes complete with a new presentation box for safekeeping and wrapping as the perfect gift.
