This is a very fine scrimshaw whale tooth, in very good condition. The tooth dates from the 19th Century and is guaranteed to be genuine antique scrimshaw of the stated era, not any kind of modern reproduction. Scrimshaw is a process of carving onto the tooth and filling in the carved lines with ink. This is a very fine piece of work and is signed ‘James Fale’ and intialed ‘JHF’. One side of the tooth depicts a house with a US flag, showing that James Fale was an American. The other side shows James Fale himself.
A rare natural history antique that will be much admired. Will also provide an excellent financial investment, as well as a possession to enjoy. Feel free to return for a refund if you are not entirely happy. You can view at our central London location - by appointment only. We offer online prices with offline availability and service.
