This is an original signed pencil drawing by Otto Dix (1891-1969), one of history’s most famous German artists. The drawing is guaranteed to be authentic Dix and is a delightful study of a worse for wear ageing prostitute, with a touch of humour; typical Dix. It is in very good condition for a drawing on paper dating back to 1921, with minor ageing.
Otto Dix is one of our very favourite artists. We have two drawings by Dix in my collection and we are selling this one with a heavy heart. They were purchased many years ago and it is doubtful we will find another for an affordable sum. Dix paintings sell for millions and the value of this drawing will only rise. A similar drawing by Dix sold at auction in recent years for £36,000, making my price very reasonable. We hope that it will go to someone who truly treasures it.
Provenance
Private collection of Stephen Baring. Collection includes two inherited collections and twenty five years of personal collecting. The collection numbers well over 1,000 works of art, some of which will be sold over the coming months. The drawing comes complete with a certificate of authenticity from Tempus Gallery, an offline central London art gallery.
Wilhelm Heinrich Otto Dix (1891-1969) was a German painter and printmaker, noted for his ruthless and harshly realistic depictions of Weimar society and the brutality of war. Along with George Grosz, he is widely considered one of the most important artists of the Neue Sachlichkeit.
A genuine drawing by a famous listed artist that will be much admired in your home or office. Will provide an excellent financial investment as well as a possession to enjoy. You are welcome to return for a full refund if you are not entirely happy. Also, please feel free to view at our central London showroom.
