IWC Schaffhausen 18ct gold vintage watch - c1939

This is a simply beautiful, very rare gents watch by IWC Schaffhausen, who need no introduction. The watch dates from 1939 and is in excellent, clean all-original condition with minor wear. It should be of interest to any serious IWC collector. It features a stunning original black dial, a solid 18ct gold case, high-grade IWC hand-movement [Cal 83], and original unsigned crown. The watch comes complete with a quality leather strap and a new quality watch box.

Such is the high quality of the watch, I will include a six month written guarantee on the movement, which is long enough for you to assess the running order. The solid 18ct gold case is in good, bright condition for its age and measures 31mm wide, excluding the original unsigned crown x 36.5mm long including the lugs. The back closes tightly and the inside is signed ‘IWC’, ‘Probus Scafusia’, the case reference number ‘1039951’ and carries the appropriate Swiss hallmarks for 18ct gold.

The black dial is simply beautiful and I believe original, without restoration. It is very clean, with very minor wear visible under a loupe. The dial is signed ‘International Watch Co’ and ‘Schaffhausen’. The original hands, including sub-seconds hand, are in excellent unbent condition and the lens, which may or may not be original, is very clear.

The hand-wound 17 jewel movement [Cal 83] is in very good working order and features Geneva striping and gold jewel chatons. It is signed ‘International Watch Co’, ‘C89’ and the movement reference number ‘1012541’. The movement has just been cleaned and oiled by a professional watchmaker and is in very good working order.

This beautiful watch comes complete with a quality leather strap. The watch will be posted in a new quality watch box, for safekeeping and for easy wrapping as a gift to truly remember.
