Rolex Super Oyster steel date watch - c1951

This is a really beautiful, rare midsize Rolex Oysterdate (Super Oyster), in steel [Model 6066/Ref 764604]. Dating from 1951, the watch is in absolutely excellent condition, with no significant wear and is of course authentic. The watch comes from my personal collection and is always much admired. The Super Oyster was made for a few years in the early 1950s and didn’t have the screwdown Oyster crown - a quick Google search will verify this. The watch features a stainless steel case, original signed screwdown crown, a clean Rolex hand-wound 17 jewel movement and a beautiful clean dial with red centre seconds hand and date function. The watch comes complete with a Rolex steel buckle, new leather strap and a quality presentation box. The watch is small by today’s standards and will suit either a gent who prefers a smaller watch or a lady who prefers a larger one.

The solid steel case is in excellent clean condition, with virtually no wear. The case measures 30mm wide, excluding the original non-screwdown crown [signed Rolex Super Oyster] x 36.5mm long, including the lugs. The model and reference numbers are clearly visible between the lugs. The case back screws correctly closed and the inside is correctly signed ‘Rolex', ‘Geneva Swiss’, ‘Patented’ and ‘6066’ [the model reference number].

The lovely dial is in mint clean condition and is signed 'Rolex Oysterdate’, ‘Precision’ and ‘Swiss’. The original hands, including red centre seconds hand, are also in excellent condition, and the lens is very clear. The dial also has a date function, which is working correctly.

The Rolex hand-wound 17 jewel movement is excellent quality, as you would expect and in crisp, clean condition. It is signed ‘Rolex’, ‘Swiss Geneva’, ‘Adjusted to 2 positions’ and ‘17 seventeen jewels’. The movement has just been serviced by a master watchmaker and is in excellent working order. The date function works correctly.

This beautiful watch is on a new leather strap, attached to which is a Rolex steel buckle. The watch comes complete with a new presentation box for safekeeping and wrapping as the perfect gift.
