Description
This is a simply stunning example of a gents Rolex Datejust Oyster Perpetual, in steel [Model 1601/Serial 3896728]. Dating from 1975, the watch is in very good all original condition, with minor wear. The watch comes from my personal collection and I have enjoyed wearing it recently. It is always much admired. The watch features a large stainless steel case, date function, a Rolex self-winding 26 jewel movement [Cal 1570], a beautiful mint original and unrestored silvered dial. The watch comes complete with a new high quality Hirsch Buffalo strap and new quality presentation box.
My asking price is already fair for a watch that will only rise further in value. Such is the high quality of the watch, I will include a six month written guarantee on the movement, which is long enough for you to assess it. I also include a professional insurance valuation, in excess of my asking price. I offer a full no quibble refund if you are not entirely happy with your purchase. Please feel free to contact me to arrange to view the watch in central London.
The solid steel case is in excellent clean condition and measures a large 35.5mm wide, excluding the original screw-down crown [signed with the famous Rolex crown emblem] x 43mm long, including the lugs. The case back screws correctly closed and the inside is correctly signed ‘Montres Rolex SA', ‘Geneva Switzerland’, ‘Patented’, ‘Stainless steel’, ‘111.67’ and ‘1601’ [the reference number]. The case carries the Model 1601 / Serial 3896728 reference numbers between the lugs and they are clearly visible.
The lovely original, unrestored silvered dial is in mint clean condition, with no ageing, and is signed 'Rolex’, ‘Oyster Perpetual Datejust’, ‘Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified’ and ‘Swiss’. The original hands, including smooth-sweeping centre seconds hand, are also in mint condition, and the original Rolex cyclops lens is perfectly clear. The date function is working correctly.
The Rolex self-winding 26 jewel movement [Cal 1570] is excellent quality, as you would expect and in crisp, clean condition. It is signed ‘Montres Rolex SA’, ‘Geneva Swiss’, ‘Twenty seven 26 jewels’, ‘Adj 5 positions temperature’ and ‘1570’. The movement has just been serviced by a master watchmaker and is in perfect working order, keeping excellent time. The date function works correctly.
I have put this beautiful watch on a new, high quality Hirsch buffalo strap, which suits it perfectly. The watch comes complete a new, non-Rolex presentation box.
A simply superb watch from one of history's most famous names; collection standard. Will provide an excellent financial investment as well as a possession to enjoy.
